During times of newness, a change of season, a birthday, a celebration we often practice a Mala. We’re so excited to invite you to our first Studio Mala. Celebrate our 1st birthday and the new year ahead.

What is a Mala? A Mala is a moving meditation & an energetic 108 salutations which encourages us to let go and ignite our energises. Its a wonderful way to bring us all together and participate in a collective celebration of yoga.

After a warm up, we’ll flow together through a practice of 54 sun salutations (half Mala). We’ll then conclude our time together with a soothing Yin Yoga practice, deeply restoring Shavasana and drinks and snacks.

Its a time to come together and renew energies for the year ahead. Move in union, breathe as one and enjoy the benefits of this powerful healing Yoga Mala.

Unlocking Inversions Workshop

This is a Yoga Workshop for those looking to develop their inversion balances.  Inversions are not just handstands, they include anything where the head is lower than the heart.

In this intensive morning session we will be getting fiery with a strong morning flow, working into asanas that specifically strengthen our upper body and a series of inversions.

There will be some partner work to enable us to feel supported when upside down and to give you an idea of how to assist a friend, child, colleague or student in inversions.

The physical elements of the session will run from 11.30am – 1.30pm.

Everyone is invited to bring a small vegan or vegetarian dish which we will share – or there is a great cafe just below if you fancy grabbing something there (maybe pop in before the workshop so they can prep it for you).

Shared lunch is 1.30pm

Following lunch we will drink a cleansing Turmeric Tea drink which I will prepare and discuss the session a little more, benefits of inversions and anything else that comes up.

It is recommended you have some experience in Yoga and/or Inversions. Any questions on your level of experience please don’t hesitate to ask.

Deepen Your Backbends // Masterclass

Super excited , our friend and Yogi, Colette, the Yoga Doc is returning to the studio – to lead a back-bending masterclass.

Let’s face it, backbends can be quite emotionally and physically challenging. They’re the opposite of our normal, every day activities; sitting at a desk or car, carrying or lifting kids with a rounded flexed spine.

It’s because they reverse these habitual motions that they are so healing; opening up space, energising and creating balance to our bodies and lives.

They’re also an awful lot of fun and incredibly liberating once you learn how to use and integrate your muscles to keep you safe and strong yet open in backbends.

Expect to open up our afternoon practice with energising pranayama (breathwork) and Kriya cleansing to fire us up to and set the right tone for an afternoon of fun and challenging back bending.

Functional flow warm up to follow to create the heat and openness needed to explore in a deeper fashion backbends for all body types and abilities; emphasis on the shoulders, core, sidebody and hip flexors – essential to grow your backbend safely.

We’ll then move into a more workshop based setting with plenty of group and paired demonstration. Building solid foundations around correct alignment, we’ll explore the important but often overlooked details on how to really access the upper back and how to open the front of the body with care.

Building on the biomechanics explored (the how and what part of our body is working) and modifications available, expect to progress deeper into our back bends.

Expect to be challenged, expect your backbend transform .. but most of all expect to to have a lot of fun and feel energised by end of the afternoon .

Yin, Slow flow, Meditation & Pranayama

Yin & Yin // Yang, Chakra meditation with Senior Yin Teacher Rebecca Shepherd

Morning

Fresh from her studies with the creators of Modern Yin Yoga – Paul and Suzee Grilley – Rebecca will offer an introduction to the “Yang side of Yin”. The Yang practice is the dynamic partner to the deep, relaxing Yin practice. This beautiful, flowing practice targets muscle tissue. The movement helps to stimulate the flow of Chi energy through the body.

This will be followed by a relaxing Yin practice which targets connective tissue and helps to “unclog” the meridian pathways in the body through which Chi flows. We will discuss the meridian system and introduce the Chakric system. We will finish with a short-guided Chakra meditation.

The afternoon will consist of an unhurried, Yin practice expanding on Chakra theory. The session will end with a pranayama session and a longer-guided Chakra meditation.

A time to celebrate new light and life, new beginnings, plant new seeds and pathways for new opportunities.

The Equinox occurs when day and night are at equal length. The significance for Spring is that daylight starts to increase, so the earth is about to tip over to more light, like an illuminating, sublime reminder that light is returning and always does, to earth. Therefore, the spring equinox represents new light and life, new beginnings, seeds, and new paths.

Day of Yoga

3 workshops for Mental & Physical Wellbeing

One workshop £15, 2 workshops £28, full day £40

Hip opening – workshop 1  – 10-11.30am

There can be a tremendous amount of tension held in the muscles and tissues surrounding the pelvis. Martyn will guide you through a delicious hip opening practice as a great way to release this tension. Moving the ball and socket joint through its full range of motion helps create supple hips. This in turn, can ease back pain and assist in alignment of the whole body.

Strengthening and unlocking tight shoulders – workshop 2 – 12-1.30am

Shoulder problems caused by joint instability is one of the most common ailments. Tight shoulders can cause them to become weakened over time, and weak shoulders could lead to neck strains or other upper body injuries. You’ll be led through a practice that increases your range of motion in this area, and by building strength in the surrounding tissues, you can work to alleviate pain, stress, and future neck or back issues.

Meditation & Breathwork – workshop 3 – 2-3pm

When you think of doing yoga, your first association might be with the physical practice: moving through the yoga poses and practising yoga breathing. But meditation is also part of a well-rounded yoga experience.

Learning to meditate in yoga involves more than sitting still for a few moments each day. Yoga meditation is about quieting a busy mind, starting to see things as they truly are. Meditation can help you realise deep inner peace, realising that you can achieve anything your heart desires.

The whole day is suitable for absolute beginners as well as experienced practitioners looking for a different take on yoga and its vast physical, emotional and spiritual benefits, presented in a fun, warm and genuine way.
